The story of Heal & Seal
“Heal & Seal was first born out of curiosity then anger. My husband and I prayed for two years to conceive and when we finally got that +, we discovered our baby stopped growing and I miscarried at 10 weeks. It was devastating. But one cycle later and our now almost 4 year old daughter was created. We waited so long to have this beauty and I ended up struggling with postpartum depression which I didn't even admit until she was 2. I tried going back to work but quit after 4 months. During this time I would have play dates with another mother who had recently had her second child. I remember her having to sit every 5 minutes because she ‘felt her vagina was going to fall out.’ I assumed it was because of such a hard, long labor. I assumed it was normal. She told me she had Diastasis Recti, knew I loved all things muscles and implored me to find a way to fix it. It wasn't until I discovered my abs were separated that I began that journey.
Before having kids I was incredibly fit. I was a personal trainer, nutritionist, national level figure competitor who could dead-lift 215 easy. For those who don't know, that's two of those big 45lb plates per side. Yeah, I was strong and I was confused how someone as strong as me could have abs that separated.
It made ZERO sense to me.
So I researched. I looked up every program out there. I Youtube’d video after video. Some Youtubers actually showed the movements from the programs that ranged from $300+ to free and I tried it all. I felt nothing different from my ‘regular’ ab workouts. Besides that, if those movements didn't prevent the separation, how could it heal it? Again, it made ZERO sense to me. So I researched more. I delved into understanding all the muscles of the core and their FUNCTION! This is how I discovered the transverse abdominus, the diaphragm, and the pelvic floor. I put two and two together and AH-HA!!!
The light bulb went off. All this time, these programs, myself, we were looking at those six pack abs. We neglected to look at the core, as a whole, but also at each muscles primary function. To support the breath.
I honestly didn't really believe what I read or that it could be so simple. I spent months coming up with techniques. Making sounds, movements, and such in my living room while my little baby rolled around. Eventually I came to a handful of things that felt good. That felt like they were ‘working’ but of course no one would believe ME so I asked women to be a part of my test group promising nothing in return but begging for their time and bodies. After two weeks, we were all shocked at the results.
I am still shocked at times.
Separations came together, back pain was gone, pelvic pain was gone, peeing themselves had stopped, tummies tightening. It was unreal, except it was real. Shortly after that I launched publicly and have been doing this ever since.”
“Heal & Seal is a 3-Phase program that heals Diastasis Recti and symptoms related to pelvic floor dysfunction. Each phase compounds upon the prior and is designed to take a woman from sedentary or newly postpartum to a functional place where she can begin or resume any physical program she desires without fear of re-separating or symptoms returning. Each phase also consists of 1-hour semi-private or private sessions that meet once a week for four weeks with homework between sessions and a check in 2-4 weeks after the Phase is wrapped up. Participants need a month minimum but no more than 3 between Phases to perfect techniques and be fully prepared to take on the next Phase. All Phases are priced separately at $305 with a discount offered to anyone who signs up for the following Phase while participating in the prior Phase.
A real deal if you compare the cost of physical therapy, personal trainers, or online programs. Real, in-person, committed help. If you don't get results, we keep working with you, on us, so long as you are doing your part.
Phase I is designed to address the most common source of core dysfunction by strengthening the transverse abdominus and reconnecting the participant to their pelvic floor through gentle breathing and verbalization techniques that can be done before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and as soon as a week postpartum.
Phase II further strengthens the core and pelvic floor as well as increasing pelvic stability through activation of the deep six pelvic muscles and restoring proper muscular activation to the pelvis. Phase II techniques are challenging but equally as gentle as Phase I.
Phase III teaches the core and pelvic floor to activate in conjunction with other muscles of the body while addressing more specific areas of dysfunction as is relative to the participant. Most common muscles to be addressed are the glutes, psoas, rhomboids, multifidi, & tibialis.”
Why YOU NEED to choose Heal & Seal
“One thing I really love about this program vs. some others currently out there is it works for any woman of any age with any background and any amount of children. So far, the oldest woman I have worked with is 74 years old and the youngest is a 22 year old first time mamma. I have worked with women who have had 13 kids, never had kids, women who have had abdominal surgery, mesh implants, hysterectomies, use pessaries, and prior pelvic floor reconstruction. Pregnant women as early as 8 weeks along to as late as 41 weeks. Newly postpartum moms as early as one week or as late as 50 years. Ideally, a woman would come to me before she conceives but most don't realize the importance of taking care of their core and pelvic floor until they are already pregnant or struggling with symptoms. I highly recommend working with the program while pregnant because it minimizes symptoms during pregnancy and makes postpartum healing much faster and easier.
There are so many signs and symptoms your core and pelvic floor need some TLC but what's worse are those without symptoms. Those who assume the absence means perfect function. I have come across so many women who have zero symptoms then a full on protruding hernia or grade 3 prolapse.
Always get checked and be proactive vs. reactive.
Some common symptoms associated with DR or a weakened TVA is back pain, lower, middle or upper thoracic. Overactive or overly tight psoas, quadratus lumborum, or piriformis including piriformis syndrome or sciatic pain. Poor posture, kyphosis of the upper back or lordosis of the pelvis is a clear indicator that both the core and pelvis are unstable, especially if you are receiving regular chiropractic care. Doming down the midline or inability to ‘feel’ your core is another very common symptom along with abdominal protrusions. Some less commonly associated symptoms are painful menstrual cycles and irregular bowel movements such as constipation, and abdominal bloating particularly more visible in the evenings. Even an outie bellybutton is a symptom of separation or weak midline fascia. When it comes to the pelvic floor the absolute most widely known symptom is stress incontinence meaning you dribble when you laugh, cough, sneeze, or jump.
This symptom is so common that it is considered normal but let me assure you, it is NOT normal and it is easily fixable.
In most cases, this symptom is resolved before the participant ends Phase I. Symptoms related to a weakened and loosened pelvic floor include incontinence, vaginal or perineal heaviness, even if it is cyclical, inability to maintain positioning of a tampon or menstrual cup, inability to hold your bowels, inability to orgasm or orgasm without clitoral stimulation, hemorrhoids, prolapse of any kind. Symptoms of a weak but overly tight pelvic floor includes vaginismus or vaginal spasms, painful sex, inability to fully empty your bladder or constant feeling the need to urinate, constipation or inability to fully empty your bowels. Just like with any symptoms, ignoring it will only lead to more symptoms down the line. While none are life-threatening, they certainly are confidence-stealing or uncomfortable.”
Ashley’s Mission with Heal & Seal
“My mission is for women to rediscover how incredibly strong and beautiful their bodies are through restoring function to their core and pelvic floor. Too often women are told they are stuck where they are with no solutions to their symptoms. Symptoms like back pain, weakness, prolapse, etc. This is where the born out of anger comes in. Just because it is COMMON to have separation or pee your pants does not mean it is NORMAL! Just because your doctor says it can be fixed doesn't mean that's true! He or she just doesn't know. You are not stuck. I am confident in the next five years or so we will see a movement in this arena where this type of ‘therapy’ is already included in other countries. We will see doctors, therapists, trainers, and midwives educated in these symptoms and sharing the solutions aside from dealing with it or surgery. I am going to be a part of that movement to make this happen.
We deserve it.”
